Pink Eye

Pink eye, also called conjunctivitis is a redness or irritation of the membranes that cover the whites if the eyes. There are both viral and bacterial forms of pick eye. You can get pink eye at any age but it is most common in children. Usually a pink eye infection is viral and it clears up in a few days. The symptoms of pink eye include watery discharge from the eye, itchy eyes and flu like symptoms.

Bacterial pink eye infections have slightly different symptoms that viral pink eye. Bacterial pink eye produces more discharge from the eye and typically increases over night. Pink eye is not a very serious disease as long as it is treated properly. It is, however, contagious in the early stages. If your child has pink eye it is best to keep them at home to prevent transmission to other children.
